Business Rates Ruling Overturned

The Supreme Court has today (1 March 2017) overturned a previous judgement by the Court of Appeal in which an office building that was undergoing redevelopment was deemed capable of occupation and therefore liable for full business rates. New empty property rate relief regime in force until September 2016

New non-domestic properties such as offices, warehouses and shops which are completed between 1 October 2013 and 30 September 2016 and which are not occupied will be allowed relief from business rates for the first 18 months after construction.
