Don’t just make the conveyancing grade – exceed it

It is widely recognised that buying and selling property can be one of the most stressful times in a person’s life. A simple way to ease the burden is to make the right choice when it comes to selecting a lawyer to carry out the conveyancing. The Law Society’s kite mark has been set up to help with this.

The Law Society introduced the Conveyancing Quality Scheme to provide a recognised quality standard for residential conveyancing practices. Membership will indicate a level of credibility to those firms they regularly do business with such as regulators, lenders, insurers and of course clients. The intention of the scheme is to create and promote a ‘trusted community’ and help eliminate fraud in property transactions. The scheme is based on:

a. the integrity of the Senior Responsible Officer and other key conveyancing staff,

b. the firm’s adherence to good practice management standards, and

c. adherence to prudent and efficient conveyancing procedure.

Conveyancers wishing to sign up to the scheme will need to show that they have systems in place to ensure excellent standards of client care and best practice.

Barr Ellison Solicitors has embraced the new scheme and been a full member for many years. We are also a member of LEXCEL, the Law Society’s international practice management scheme, a quality assurance scheme which requires members to meet strict criteria in practice management and client care.
